一位高中生的畢業(yè)感言

There comes a day in everyone’s life when they make the final step into becoming an adult. There is a lot of ¹⁾symbolism on this day. A simple square cap and gown creates the ²⁾illusion that all the people going through it are similar. But then you see each of their faces and the way they walk to receive their ³⁾diploma, everyone is different.

A few are ⁴⁾distinguished with colored ropes hung about their necks. I find the symbolism ironic. They worked so hard to be the best, I bet sometimes they thought about hanging themselves! But they receive the ropes as kind of a reminder that they can take that ⁵⁾noose and use it as a ⁶⁾trophy.

Then there is the simple piece of paper that represents the ⁷⁾accomplishments of the past 12 years of their lives. 12 years, summed up on one piece of paper in an inexpensive ⁸⁾folder. That’s some powerful stuff right there.

Then to receive it from a man or woman that you probably haven’t ever talked to or known other than in an official ⁹⁾capacity. It’s sort of like shaking hands with god and the devil at the same time. God is telling you that you have achieved so much and wishes you good luck. The Devil is telling you that you have to go out and face the real world, and you’d better not ¹⁰⁾screw it up.

Then there is the simple task of posing a ¹¹⁾tassel from one side of a hat to the other. It’s like opening a door to an entirely new world.

Graduation represents moving from the ¹²⁾sheltered life of high school into the real world. It’s scary, but everyone must do it. And I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

一些人因?yàn)楸憩F(xiàn)突出，被授予彩帶，掛在脖子上。我發(fā)現(xiàn)這個(gè)象征符號(hào)很有諷刺意味。他們刻苦學(xué)習(xí)，力求做到最優(yōu)秀，我敢打賭有時(shí)候他們?cè)脒^(guò)用帶子上吊！可是，他們現(xiàn)在獲頒彩帶作為紀(jì)念品，以提醒自己，他們可以接受那個(gè)絞套，作為戰(zhàn)利品使用。

然后，一張簡(jiǎn)單的證書(shū)成了他們生命中過(guò)去12年學(xué)業(yè)成就的象征。12年，濃縮在夾在廉價(jià)硬套的一張薄紙當(dāng)中。其中，蘊(yùn)含了一些強(qiáng)有力的東西。

接著，我們從一位男士或者女士手中接過(guò)畢業(yè)證書(shū)——這位男士（女士），除了以官方的身份出現(xiàn)，我們都幾乎沒(méi)跟他（她）說(shuō)過(guò)話，甚至不認(rèn)識(shí)他（她）。這種感覺(jué)就好像同時(shí)跟上帝和魔鬼握手。上帝跟你說(shuō)，你用自己的努力換來(lái)了今天的驕人成績(jī)，祝你一路走好，而魔鬼則跟你說(shuō)，你得走出去面對(duì)現(xiàn)實(shí)世界了，到時(shí)候可別把事情都搞砸了。

最后還有一個(gè)小活兒要做，就是把帽穗從四方帽的一個(gè)角拉到對(duì)角固定好——就像是為一個(gè)全新的世界打開(kāi)大門(mén)一樣。

畢業(yè)意味著從備受保護(hù)的高中學(xué)校生活中走出來(lái)，走進(jìn)現(xiàn)實(shí)的世界。那確實(shí)讓人害怕，然而每個(gè)人都必須經(jīng)歷這個(gè)階段。而我是無(wú)論如何也不會(huì)錯(cuò)過(guò)的。
