奧運比賽項目－現(xiàn)代五項Pentathlon

A young French cavalry officer of the 19th century was sent on horseback to deliver a message. He rode across the uneven terrain, through enemy lines, and was confronted by a soldier with his sword drawn. Challenged to a duel, the officer won, only to have his horse shot out from under him by another enemy soldier. After felling that soldier with a single shot, the officer ran on. He swam across a raging river, and then finally he delivered the message. So, legend has it, was born the modern pentathlon.

　　19世紀，一名年輕的法國騎兵軍官受命飛騎傳信。他踏破險阻，穿越敵陣，迎面遭遇一名揮舞利劍的敵兵。二人比劍決斗，軍官獲勝，但他跨下的坐騎卻被另一名敵兵射殺。軍官一槍擊斃敵兵，徒步繼續(xù)向前跑去。他泅渡過急流，終于將消息送到目的地。這就是傳說中現(xiàn)代五項全能運動的起源。

　　The brainchild of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, the event was based upon the unlucky officer and introduced into the Stockholm Games of 1912. Only remotely resembling the ancient pentathlon inspired by the warmongering Spartans, modern pentathletes shoot, fence, swim, compete in show jumping and run - five events testing endurance as well as athletic versatility.

　　實際上，現(xiàn)代五項是由現(xiàn)代奧運會的創(chuàng)始人顧拜旦根據(jù)那位歷盡磨難的法國軍官的傳說創(chuàng)立的，并成為1912年斯德哥爾摩奧運會的比賽項目�，F(xiàn)代五項與好戰(zhàn)的斯巴達人的古代五項全能不大相同，它包括射擊、擊劍、游泳、馬術(shù)和越野跑。這五項比賽考察的是運動員的耐力和綜合素質(zhì)。
