大象是一種古老的哺乳動物。早在幾百萬年以前，它就與恐龍等動物共同生活在地球上，后來恐龍滅絕了，但大象卻頑強(qiáng)地生存了下來，說明大象適應(yīng)環(huán)境能力比較強(qiáng)。今天看來，只要人類盡力保護(hù)大象，大象作為一種動物種類再繼續(xù)生存幾百萬年是不成問題的。
