Should parents send their kids to overseas schools?

With the remarkable improvement of people’s living standard, more and more parents tend to send their kids to overseas schools. To this phenomenon, it’s little wonder that there are two different views. Some people hold the positive view with their sound reasons. They claim that overseas studying can widen kids’ horizon and receive accept a better education. Perhaps in their opinion the way will be more conductive to their kids especially for better jobs.

However, we can also hear another standpoint arguing that studying abroad does not necessarily mean that it will exert positive effects on kids. Maybe they couldn’t fit in there so that it gives rise to various problems in study and life. From another perspective, it may go to the disadvantage of cultural heritage of China.

With the reference of my standpoint, I believe that overseas studying benefits children. It is undeniable that studying abroad and exchange ideas and emotions with foreigners is an irresistible trend of the social development. But to inherit Chinese excellent culture is a duty to every Chinese.

More and more college students, in recent years, are finding it difficult to find jobs. This may sound strange since college students used to be the "most favored" people in society. They have received a higher education, hence they are more intelligent, knowledgeable than their counterparts who failed to attend college. But chances are that some of them can hardly find jobs after graduating from colleges.

There are two reasons that account for this strange phenomenon. One is that some college students cannot come to terms with themselves and with the world around them. They pursue too high goals and are too particular about such factors as working conditions, salary, and so on. Therefore, they are reluctant to accept the job when they are offered to them. Another reason is that the majors some students pursue do not match with the demands of the job market. As a result, they can only sit and miss opportunities.

To solve this problem, I think college students should know their own strengths and weaknesses and have the right attitude towards themselves and the job vacancies. In addition, they should not attach too much importance to material aspects of the job. They should put priority to their future development and their contributions to society in stead. Furthermore, they should think of receiving some further training to meet the demands of society.

i am speaking not as a briton, not as a european, not as a member of a western democracy, but as a human being, a member of the species man, whose continued eistence is in doubt. the world is full of conflicts: jews and arabs; indians and pakistanis; white men and negroes in africa; and, overshadowing all minor conflicts, the titanic struggle between communism and anticommunism.

almost everybody who is politically conscious has strong feelings about one or more of these issues; but i want you, if you can, to set aside such feelings for the moment and consider yourself only as a member of a biological species which has had a remarkable history and whose disappearance none of us can desire. i shall try to say no single word which should appeal to one group rather than to another. all, equally, are in peril, and, if the peril is understood, there is hope that they may collectively avert it. we have to learn to think in a new way. we have to learn to ask ourselves not what steps can be taken to give military victory to whatever group we prefer, for there no longer are such steps. the question we have to ask ourselves is: what steps can be taken to prevent a military contest of which the issue must be disastrous to all sides?

the general public, and even many men in positions of authority, have not realized what would be involved in a war with hydrogen bombs. the general public still thinks in terms of the obliteration of cities. it is understood that the new bombs are more powerful than the old and that, while one atomic bomb could obliterate hiroshima, one hydrogen bomb could obliterate the largest cities such as london, new york, and moscow. no doubt in a hydrogen-bomb war great cities would be obliterated. but this is one of the minor disasters that would have to be faced. if everybody in london, new york, and moscow were eterminated, the world might, in the course of a few centuries, recover from the blow. but we now know, especially since the bikini test, that hydrogen bombs can gradually spread destruction over a much wider area than had been supposed. it is stated on very good authority that a bomb can now be manufactured which will be 25,000 times as powerful as that which destroyed hiroshima. such a bomb, if eploded near the ground or under water, sends radioactive particles into the upper air. they sink gradually and reach the surface of the earth in the form of a deadly dust or rain. it was this dust which infected the japanese fishermen and their catch of fish although they were outside what american eperts believed to be the danger zone. no one knows how widely such lethal radioactive particles might be diffused, but the best authorities are unanimous in saying that a war with hydrogen bombs is quite likely to put an end to the human race. it is feared that if many hydrogen bombs are used there will be universal death - sudden only for a fortunate minority, but for the majority a slow torture of disease and disintegration...

here, then, is the problem which i present to you, stark and dreadful and inescapable: shall we put an end to the human race1 or shall mankind renounce war? people will not face this alternative because it is so difficult to abolish war. the abolition of war will demand distasteful limitations of national sovereignty. but what perhaps impedes understanding of the situation more than anything else is that the term mankind feels vague and abstract. people scarcely realize in imagination that the danger is to themselves and their children and their grandchildren, and not only to a dimly apprehended humanity and so they hope that perhaps war may be allowed to continue provided modern weapons are prohibited. i am afraid this hope is illusory. whatever agreements not to use hydrogen bombs had been reached in time of peace, they would no longer be considered binding in time of war, and both sides would set to work to manufacture hydrogen bombs as soon as war broke out, for if one side manufactured the bombs and the other did not, the side that manufactured them would inevitably be victorious...

as geological time is reckoned, man has so far eisted only for a very short period one million years at the most. what he has achieved, especially during the last 6,000 years, is something utterly new in the history of the cosmos, so far at least as we are acquainted with it. for countless ages the sun rose and set, the moon waed and waned, the stars shone in the night, but it was only with the coming of man that these things were understood. in the great world of astronomy and in the little world of the atom, man has unveiled secrets which might have been thought undiscoverable. in art and literature and religion, some men have shown a sublimity of feeling which makes the species worth preserving. is all this to end in trivial horror because so few are able to think of man rather than of this or that group of men? is our race so destitute of wisdom, so incapable of impartial love, so blind even to the simplest dictates of self-preservation, that the last proof of its silly cleverness is to be the etermination of all life on our planet? - for it will be not only men who will perish, but also the animals, whom no one can accuse of communism or anticommunism.

i cannot believe that this is to be the end. i would have men forget their quarrels for a moment and reflect that, if they will allow themselves to survive, there is every reason to epect the triumphs of the future to eceed immeasurably the triumphs of the past. there lies before us, if we choose, continual progress in happiness, knowledge, and wisdom. shall we, instead, choose death, because we cannot forget our quarrels? i appeal, as a human being to human beings: remember your humanity, and forget the rest. if you can do so, the way lies open to a new paradise; if you cannot, nothing lies before you but universal death.

At present, some colleges and universities permit their students to select lecturers of some courses by themselves. After all, some teachers are very boring and some required subjects are probably not very practical.

Several fundamental factors are considered when students selecting their lecturers. First and foremost, a good instructor should be able to interest and motivate their classes. Students will learn more quickly and thoroughly from a teacher who makes the subject matter come alive for them. What is more, an outstanding tutor should spend time and energy organizing and preparing the lessons.

Good as selecting lecturers is, it also has its own disadvantages. On the one hand, if students can choose their own curriculum, they can generally do better in subjects that interest them. On the other hand, given the high pressure to make good grades, many students will misuse the opportunity and naturally choose the easier subjects rather than the harder ones. It is high time that we attached importance to this issue.

How time flies! It has been about two years since I came to the University of Education. Every coin has two sides. On the one hand, I am quite satisfied with my university life. On the other hand, life in my university is not as satisfactory as what we had expected.

University is not only a place where you can learn something useful from textbooks, but also a place where you can improve your ability to communicate with others.

During the year university study, I can not only acquire a lot of book learning, but also foster various abilities. All types of extracurricular activities such as sports meets, speech contests, different social gatherings and traveling provide opportunities to make friends, many of these friendships may last a long time. I like talking and playing with others, so I own many friends. Sometimes I feel lonely, angry and also homesick. But fortunately I own these good friends. They helped me spend these sad days. I find words cannot express my sincere thanks to them. But I know when they need help; I will do everything that I can do to help those who helped me before.

I like going to the library where you can find these words on the wall: "Knowledge is power." and "Keep silence!" after class every day. Because I know that we must learn every day. I think the life in university of Education is full of freedom, but I never waste time. Life is not easy

for everybody, especially for those who hopes to lead a happy life”, a famous lady once said. That is to say, you have to try your best to learn and to pass exams in order to make your life become better and better with time going on. So I never give up learning even go to the college.

Sometimes I also want to own more free time to do my own things. But we have too many classes. So I think life in my university is not as satisfactory as what we had expected. The teaching method is boring; instead of lecturing, some teachers just "read" lessons. I hate it. I want to more free time in class.

During the time I spend at the University of Education, I not only develops my intellectual abilities, I also develop social skills as well as knowledge and wisdom necessary for choosing a future career.

In short, we should value our life in the University of Education. Although there are many things lacking, the four years in the university is a worthwhile period in our whole lifetime.

More Chances Should Be Offered to Women to Do Some High-level Jobs

Nowadays, with the rapid development of our society and economy, there have emerged many working opportunities. But there exists a problem that high-level jobs are mostly occupied by men even though some women are also competent. That disagrees with the equality of men and women.

When we talk about this phenomenon, first we must admit that there exist some differences between men and women. Then we should know that neither side could be regarded better or worse. For example, if you say men are often cairn and objective, but don't you see some men are more careless than women? Besides, if you think women are always hesitant and sensitive, then what would you say when they behave thoughtfully in work? Therefore there are not absolute advantages for men when considering their gender.

In another way, if you're a leader, what will be your criteria of selecting a candidate? Would you rather choose a guy just for he is a male and ignore another more competent lady? So whether or not a person has the ability for the job should be the first thing to consider.

However, this kind of prejudice has been existing for a long time. No matter men or women have been affected more or less, this idea has even made some women lose confidence in themselves. Therefore our whole society and especially our government should take efficient measure to encourage acertain percentage of jobs especially high level jobs to be reserved for women.

Through this way, we would hopefully see that more and more outstanding women can be working in their favourite jobs and can get their desirable position. And just by that our working field can be called a kind of equality of men and women.

Our college is situated in the northen suburbs. But the transportation is convenient and the environment is pleasing. A hill lies in the back of the college campus. Not far as-ay her. re the campus is a great lake, where we often go swimming on Sundays.

There are fimr classroom buildings and five dining-halls on the campus. The classrooms are big and bright. And each of them is large enough for sixty students to study in. Behind the main classroom building stands the college library, where both the teachers and students are busy borrowing and returning books every day. I usually go there once a week for borrowing and returning books.

Our college life is rich and interesting. On the one hand, we have many experienced teachers, sufficient books, scientific apparatus, and instruments to help our studies. On the other hand, we are encouraged to take part in many college activities such as seminars, parties, talks, sportsmeets, visiting factories, etc. Basketball and volleyball matches are held almost weekly.

All in all, studying in our college is a great privilege, so students always remember their Alma Mater after their graduation.
